All about Healing Home, a holistic healing center in Carmel, California.

OUR STORY

We’re a modern, inclusive wellness center run by local Big Sur practitioners who are committed to a life of healing.

We became friends in the wild ranges of Big Sur. Each of our journeys has led us through years of offering massage and bodywork at Post Ranch Inn, Ventana Inn and the Esalen Institute.

We have all practiced, studied and committed ourselves to a life of healing. Each of us has studied many forms of bodywork both locally and internationally and we continue to learn, practice and teach with every opportunity. Collectively and individually, we hold hundreds of hours of study beyond state and local requirements.

Our studies include Esalen Massage, DeepBodyWork (a form of deep tissue massage), Thai Massage, Lomi-Lomi (Hawaiian Bodywork), Hot Stone therapy, Myofascial Release, Cranio-Sacral, various forms of energy work, Reiki, Aromatherapy, and much more.

Our Mission + committment

Our focus is on holistic healing that emphasizes the body-mind connection.

We offer an ethical and professional practice. Our training and experience in world-class spas, massage schools and global study bring a uniquely qualified group of bodyworkers to the table.

We believe the structural components of our bodies (muscles, connective tissue, bones, etc.) recover and heal with the aid of our nervous system. Without the nervous system - communicating to our other bodily systems - healing and relaxation never fully occur.

We are committed to bringing this work to our community and beyond, with a hope of making the world safer, more coherent, and heart based.

We aspire for diversity and shared equity in the workplace while providing care and training to those with greater needs than ourselves. We at Healing Home believe everybody and every body deserves safe, healing touch and restoration.

Our Team

Seema Christie

Seema came to Esalen originally to study Spiritual Massage Light Body Infusion with Maria Lucia Saur and was called to stay on for several months. She returned back “ home” to the touchstone of Esalen over the years to continue her studies.

Eventually Seema returned to become an Extended Student and complete her studies in body work. Her experience of the community and the land was amplified by the beauty of Esalen® Massage. She settled in Big Sur and worked at Esalen offering spiritual massage and alternative healing arts, as well as, being a full time member of the massage crew.

  • She has practiced energy work for 20 years and Esalen® Massage for 15 years. She has worked at Post Ranch and Ventana Inn and Spa, and created a special menu item called Sacred Touch for Post Ranch clients. She has taught several yoga retreats and workshops, as well as several Reiki initiations.

Seema believes that each us has a healing home within and the practice of Esalen® Massage and subtle therapy is a path way to return back to that home. She combines her Esalen bodywork with subtle energetic work creating a safe, nurturing, safe space for the partner on the table.

Her studies have been ongoing and will continue as a lifetime practice. Her studies include Esalen® Massage, Spiritual Massage, Light Body Infusion, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Reiki mastership, Teacher Trainings in Hatha and Therapeutic Restorative Yoga, extensive practice in Rinzai Zen Buddhism and Vajrayana Tantra Buddhism, and a variety of shamanic studies. She holds a BFA in Art and Communication Design, and is a spiritual art maker and Plein Aire painter.

Seema’s intention is to take the energy of Esalen’s abundant teachings and share them with others. Her goal for teaching is to help others realize the power of safe, caring, loving and sacred touch. Her wish is that all can come home to the ground and heart of Esalen through touch and experience.

May all beings be happy, at ease, free and come home to themselves!

Ben Kalayjian

Ben’s journey towards bodywork began after his university years in the odd form of a sous-chef at the Institute of HeartMath.  There he learned about heart based intelligence and the science behind meditation and heart rate variability.  Many of those studies can be found in peer-reviewed science journals today.

Ben is certified in Esalen Massage and Deep Bodywork(a form of deep tissue massage), as well as, being trained in Upledger Craniosacral therapy, Hawaiian Lomi-lomi and Thai massage. He also has many years of experience in meditation, yoga, movement and other presence based awareness practices.

  • Upon completing the 150 hour certification, Ben left the kitchen and took work at the Vajrapani Institute (A Tibetan Buddhist Center), where he cooked, meditated and continued studying his new found passion of bodywork.

Over the next decade he would meet the love of his life (Seema), complete his 500-hour California massage certification, Esalen® Massage certification(s), and add hundreds of hours of study in bodywork, movement, meditation, massage instruction, couples work and Gestalt group process.  Currently his passion is at the intersections of contemporary neuroscience, contemplative practices and the evolution of the nervous system.

Healing Home is the culmination of nearly 30 years of self inquiry, contemplation, study, and care for others - combined with a life, like many, dotted with tragic, stressful events and their consequences.  This is his way to give back:  To  inspire healing from the outside…in, and to share the joys that come with living in a more holistic and authentic way.

Kelly Kramer

Coupled with her Mother's "Food as Medicine" approach growing up, she was influenced to see relationships with our physical structure, movement, touch, exercise and the healing art modalities.

Kelly has practiced massage and bodywork, as well as, taught yoga for over a decade in the Monterey Area.
